Liz Cook is a former restaurant critic and the creator of the experimental food newsletter, Haterade. She's contributed to publications such as Bon Appétit, Eater, the BBC, and Midwesterner, and her writing has been anthologized in Best American Food Writing.

Experience

As an Iowa native and Missouri transplant, Liz Cook has been chronicling the flavors and culinary traditions of the Midwest for over a decade. After spending eight years as a restaurant critic for a Kansas City alt-weekly, Liz launched the experimental food newsletter, Haterade, where she digs into maligned and misunderstood foods, from stories about the history of the appletini to recipes for soggy school lunch pizza and ChocoVine cake.

Her work has appeared in places like Bon Appétit, Eater, the BBC, Midwesterner, and Defector. Her food writing has been anthologized in the Best American Food Writing series and received awards from the Association of Food Journalists and the Association of Alternative Newsmedia.

Education

Liz holds bachelor's degrees in English and Theatre from the University of Northern Iowa and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
